A TV Dinner is is a prepackaged, frozen or chilled meal which usually comes in an individual package. It requires very little preparation and contains all the elements for a single-serving meal.
The term "TV Dinner" is actually a genericized trademark (like how Q-Tip means cotton swab or Band-Aid means bandage). They were invented by Swanson, a company that still makes TV Dinners to this day.
Before the microwave, TV Dinners were packaged in foil and heated in ovens, but now they are packaged in plastic and microwaved.
The first TV dinner was a Thanksgiving Day Meal of turkey, potatoes, and peas
Jerry Swanson created TV dinners after having nothing to do with his large quantities of left over turkey from Thanksgiving.
